A knife for beastmaster?
I know that there's a topic of making weapons for the ranger that aren't related to marksmanship. Well, I was afraid if I posted there, this idea would be overlooked.
Anyway, the idea:
There are people who are just "pure" beast masters, nothing but beast master skills. Unfortunately for them, they're stuck to a staff which shares no attribute for them so they can get their energy.
So I think it would be cool if there was a knife in the beast mastery attribute.
A few names for it:
Hunter's Knife
Tiger Fang
Dragon's Fang
Bone Knife
the list goes on...
So the knife could deal like 3-13 damage, nothing big so it can't really be as devastating as Thumpers are.
A few skills:
NOTE: these will be under beast mastery.
Brutal Stab: 5 energy, 10 second recharge
Deal +1...10 damage to target foe.
Jagged Slash: 10 energy, 10 second recharge
Target foe bleeds for 1...10 seconds.
Bestial Attack: 10 energy, 10 second recharge
Deal +1...17 damage. If this hits, you attack 25% faster for 1...4 seconds.
Tiger's Pounce: 15 energy, 15 second recharge
Deal +1...3 damage and cripple target foe for 1...12 seconds.
Beast's Claws {elite}: 15 energy, 20 second recharge
Strike target foe three times and deal +1...13 damage per attack.
And the list goes on...
I'm not sure of what an offhand would be, or to make the knife "two-handed" which would make it stupid. Maybe something like a head of an animal. Cougar head, Tiger head, Dragon head... something "beast-like".
Then the offhand would have things like any other offhand. Energy plus 12, item's attribute +1 (20%)...
Also, I would like to see some armor make out of animal skin like the warrior's ascalon armor.
So like have the head piece be the head of the animal, then you can figure out the rest, arms with arms, yeah... Then the tail... uuh, make it hang?
Then for the front, make some kind of generic armor pattern.
Do this with the tiger, panther, lion, maybe a turtle or a crab.
Giant Turtle shell on you. Maybe a giant crab claw on your right hand, with some googly eyes on your head.
There's my suggestion(s).

Nice idea but I think it'd A) be imbalancing B)kinda way too much like daggers. If knives are linked to beast mastery then RaO would be freaking insane (peopel would start using low expertise, 16 beast mastery, and all I have to say is "D*&^"), and if not then why not just use a bow or hammer? Perhaps just making a staff with beast mastery would be cool, it wouldn't be abused by RaO then.

Yeah, I was trying to avoid the whole assassin thing. So maybe the recharge times and energy should be increased so it won't be a gay spike.
Also, maybe the knife will almost be like the wand. Inscriptions or just base crap on it, but no mods. You'll have to rely on the offhand for mods.

While I agree beastmastery should have a weapon associated with it, giving attack skills to that weapon is missing the point. Casters don't have staff or wand attack skills, and there's a reason for it.
Add a beastmastery weapon, make it ranged, low damage, but beastmaster rangers are A) Going to use most of their skills for pet skills, B) going to increase their own damage with Tiger's Fury, and C) Going to use Expertise to reduce the cost of these skills, so balancing them would make them prohibitively expensive for /rangers.

So then make it 5-10 damage? That way it won't be godlike.

Um, this is sounding too much like the idea of giving beast masters a sling. Seriously, I don't think they are going to make a new weapon for an established profession.

So would the knives provide any energy? If it doesn't, then bm's will still stick with staves as their weapon of choice. Also, bm's aren't going to be fighting in the front line, since they'll be insanely weak defensively, and those knife skills are pitiful and I'd rather have more skills for my pet. And are you proposing an offhand with bm req?

I really had this exact idea a few days ago, glad someone else thought of it.
A small proposed idea:
The weapon would have a ranged type of damage, but only half of normal spell range( ,half your aggro circle).
The weapon could not deal less then 11-22(Staff) or more then 14-27(Spear).
The damage would normally be physical. I was thinking a whip kind of ordeal, like a tamer, slower attack speed but accurate. Yet, probably ridiculous I don't believe Anet would take this into consideration.
